Rockford Prometheus Pilot Case Study

Rockford Prometheus Pilot Case Study

The Rockford PROMETHEUS pilot was one of the original Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded implementation sites, which aimed to operationalize the PROMETHEUS model to address the range of issues. The objective of the pilot was to test the validity of the Evidence-informed Case Rate® (ECR) models as a means to fairly and equitably price the care of patients and encourage physicians, hospitals and all other clinicians to actively collaborate in delivering effective and efficient care to each patient.

Although the structure and set up of the Rockford marketplace may seem complex, it is typical of many other health care marketplaces across the country. As such, it was viewed as a solid testing ground for the operational validity of episode pricing. The next section of this case study describes the pilot participants, as well as the structure and scope of the pilot in more detail.
